As the festive season approaches, we are reminded of the warmth and joy that Christmas brings. Giving and receiving gifts is the best thing about it, right? Vibrant colors, lights, treats, giggles and the best food variety on the table bring the feeling of fulfillment and delight. Ask anyone what their favorite thing about Christmas is and the chances are they’ll tell you it is food. The sad truth though is that many poor families will go without food this Christmas day. Unfortunately, the post pandemic inflation crisis has pushed the unemployed, daily wagers and low paid workers further
down the poverty line, making their lives worse. Basic necessities such as food, fuel, and housing have become increasingly expensive, putting immense pressure on already struggling household budgets to make ends meet. The inability to maintain the festive expectation, as basic as good food on the table, exacerbates feelings of anxiety, depression and worthlessness. The children especially feel the effects of this lack.
